Summary/Objective
The Digital Video Journalist is a reporter, videographer, video editor, and producer of compelling, timely stories. The position will write, shoot, produce, and edit original content for AU’s digital and social media platforms to support the university’s strategic priorities and advance institutional communication objectives. This “backpack journalist” will be responsible for creating quick-turn, compelling video news content and university stories by researching, developing, and pitching story ideas; setting up, conducting and filming interviews; editing video, and producing and posting multiple forms of content for AU News, the AU website, social media, and other university publications. The Digital Video Journalist will work collaboratively with the media relations team, marketing team, internal communications team, and the schools and divisions to complement and leverage their content and storytelling work. Major goals include increasing the visibility of university leadership, faculty experts, students, staff, and alumni to enhance AU’s reputation and contribute to the sense of community within the university.
The position will support and advance the Challenge Accepted brand campaign and narrative, the Change Can’t Wait fundraising campaign, and the Changemakers for a Changing World strategic objectives by telling institutional stories that strengthen interest, engagement, and pride in the AU community. Key audiences for the digital journalist include, but are not limited to prospective students and families, current faculty/staff/students, alumni, higher education leaders, and influencers. The Digital video Journalist will need a strategic approach and an understanding of audience targeting to effectively create content that engages the different constituencies.
Essential Functions

Content Strategy and Development: Develop news story and original content ideas based on priorities set by UCM and the President’s Office. Coordinates stories with UCM teams and appropriate university stakeholders.. Produces selected video stories through research, interviews, writing, shooting, and editing. Plans, produces and delivers digital video content that supports AU’s strategic priorities, as assigned.

Video Production and Project Management: Exceptional and professional video production and Adobe Premiere editing skills are a must along with strong script writing and time management abilities. Shoots and edits unique video stories, highlights, and other clips for the web, social media and distribution to the media. Manages and executes project plans; estimates resources and time commitments, conducts tracking/oversight, schedules tasks, negotiates deliverables and provides status reporting to ensure that project goals and KPIs are achieved

Develops relationships across campus and with internal and external stakeholders so that content creation is effective and efficient. Collaborate across UCM with media relations team, marketing team (including digital team) internal comms team (including American Magazine team), designers, writers, and others from content conception through editorial sign-off, repackaging content as needed for a variety of uses.

Conduct primary research and original reporting by engaging appropriate sources within and outside the university. Stay current with relevant and emerging trends, issues, and opportunities. Serve as a resource and collaborative colleague for best practices on developing and positioning news and timely content for the web.

Salary Range
- $63,000.00 - $68,000.00/year; to commensurate with experience.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- 4-6 years of relevant experience.
