Associate Director, Employer Relations (6169)

Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for planning and overseeing recruitment events, supporting employer engagement and relationship management, facilitating job and internship promotion, and overseeing marketing and communication efforts for the Employer Relations team within Kogod’s Office of Career Engagement (OCE).

Essential Functions

  1. Employer Relations and Outreach: Establishes strong new relationships and enhances existing relationships with employers to increase participation in programming and create job/internship opportunities for students; Conducts phone/video, email, and in-person meetings to maintain relationships; Participates in professional industry and networking events to initiate contact with potential employers and stay abreast of recruitment and hiring trends; Manages a portfolio of employer relationships. Facilitates outreach to prospective and active employers through identification, solicitation, and stewardship. Conducts employer meetings to build portfolio and maintain current relationships.
  2. Event Strategy and Coordination: Oversees the strategic planning and execution of recruitment programs that create networking and career exploration opportunities for students, including events conducted on campus, off campus, and virtually; Assumes responsibility for planning recruitment programming, including establishing goals and learning objectives, determining event format and desired participants, and choosing a date/time/location, in partnership with designated career pathway coach and in consultation with the Director, Employer Relations; Coordinates with Assistant Director, Career Events and Operations on event logistics; Manages day-of operations for recruitment programs in partnership with Director, Employer Relations, Assistant Director, Career Events and Operations, and designated career pathway coach; Evaluates success of the event through surveys and documents best practices, attendance, participants, and other metrics/observations in After-Action Reports and databases.
  3. Manage Marketing & Communication for Office of Career Engagement: Oversees the development and execution of marketing and communication strategies that raise awareness and usage of OCE services, resources, and events among an increasingly diverse body of students, alumni, employers, faculty, staff, and external audiences. Directs internal and external communication efforts for OCE in consultation with Kogod’s Marketing and Communication team; Manages OCE’s web presence, including OCE website (SharePoint), in partnership with Kogod’s Marketing and Communication team; Develops and oversees execution of OCE’s comprehensive social media strategy in conjunction with Social Media Intern and Kogod’s Marketing and Communication Team; Coordinates with career and professional development team to post relevant content in pathways-aligned LinkedIn groups; Stays abreast of social media trends, including best practices for determining return on investment; Promotes job, internship, and other employer opportunities, including overseeing curation and distribution of bi-weekly Kogod Career Digest; Designs and produces content for OCE events and programs; Develops and implement evaluation techniques to determine the effectiveness of communication efforts, evaluate communication strategies for effectiveness, and explore new methods for reaching target audiences and increasing career outcomes.

Work Environment

  • This position reports directly to the Director, Employer Relations and supervises the Assistant Director, Employer Relations as well as graduate assistants and work study student event planners
  • This position independently interacts with and represents Kogod to corporate, government and NGO representatives ranging from CEOs, Agency heads and Ambassadors to entry level employees and interns
  • Kogod has residential, online, undergraduate and graduate students who would actively interact with this position along with Kogod faculty and staff on a regular basis

  • The position will work directly with other schools with the AU community, the AU career center, alumni, and corporate representatives throughout the world

  • The position is responsible for allocating and tracking expenditures related to approximately half of the Office of Career Engagement’s operating budget

Salary Range

  • $62,000-$75,000

Required Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree

  • Four to six years of business/industry or career/higher education experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Prior experience developing relationships with external parties, ideally in an academic environment with employers
  • Understanding of current employment markets and business trends

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Recruiting, internship management or sales experience
  • Master’s degree (in business administration or other relevant field)
  • Superior knowledge of career paths and opportunities and thorough understanding of the career decision-making process for highly motivated individuals
  • Able to quickly learn software applications and strong proficiency with technology and able to create reports and success measures
  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills (i.e. high personal impact) and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population of high-performing individuals required
  • Strong customer focus (ability to listen actively to students and recruiters and to understand and respond positively to their requests)
  • Strong project management skills, ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • An entrepreneurial orientation, proven track record of taking initiative and making things happen (i.e. self-starter) required
  • Ability to use persuasive sales/marketing techniques over the phone and in person
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, ambiguity, and conflicting goals
  • Must be able to make decisions under pressure
  • Team player, able to work effectively with others
  • Enjoys and is able to work in a fast-paced, busy office
  • Ability to travel and work some weekend and evening hours as required
  • Prior individual, team, and project management experience
