The Project Coordinator will work under the direction of the Director of the Forum for Climate Engineering Assessment, and the Forum’s Research Director to support a continuing funded set of projects. The Project Coordinator will be expected to provide day-to-day support for the Forum’s projects and programmatic activities. This position reports ultimately to the Director of the Forum for Climate Engineering Assessment in the School of International Service (SIS). This position is required to work closely with faculty and staff associated with environmental sustainability on the American University campus, and a wide variety of finance, grants-related, media relations, and events support staff and offices within SIS and across the campus.

Work Environment
  • Position requires occasional weekend and evening work
  • Funding for this position is currently in place until April 30, 2020. Continuation of the position beyond that date is not guaranteed and is contingent on addition external funding

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Global Environmental Politics or similar field of study
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • Thorough working knowledge of and commitment to the field of global sustainability, ideally with a special interest and working knowledge of the climate engineering conversation
  • Proven experience in planning and development, organizing, marketing, personnel management and project execution
  • Expertise in grant writing and grant management a plus
  • Budgetary experience including: planning, oversight, and execution
  • Ability to communicate effectively across diverse offices and audiences
  • Experience with building and using databases and spreadsheets
  • Extreme attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple assignments; flexibility in adjusting to changing priorities; strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively delegate work
  • Expertise in all Microsoft Office Programs, including Word, PPT, Excel, and Access
  • Familiarity with Datatel software and Content Management Systems
Preferred Education and Experience
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Overseas experience and additional language skills preferred
  • Proficiency with graphic design software including Adobe InDesign, web design software including Macromedia
  • Dreamweaver and Fireworks, and R25, the university’s room scheduling software
  • Previous experience or training on CommonSpot content management system or other CMS software
  • Familiarity with Mac and PC operating systems
  • Basic knowledge of HTML
  • Familiarity with American University setting, policies, procedures and unit functions
  • Prior experience in training and facilitation also beneficial
  • Strong working knowledge of the subject matter of climate engineering and ability to offer strategic insight in addition to day-to-day oversight
