Summary/Objective

This position assists with the daily administrative tasks and workload for the department, to ensure smooth operation of the office.  Maintains the department website and social media accounts, conducts comprehensive student exams, and coordinates department special events and programs in addition to working closely with faculty members and students. In addition, the position assists the academic program directors of the Economics Department’s undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs (hereafter referred to the Academic Program Directors), including handling routine student requests, managing work flow related to graduate admissions, tracking students’ progress, maintaining student records, and advising students under the guidance of the program directors. This position requires general supervision.

Work Environment

  • This position reports directly to the Administrative Coordinator and indirectly to the Department Chair
  • This position assists with the supervision of work study students
  • The nature of the role this position plays within the department is to assist the Administrative Coordinator with administrative office tasks, interact with other internal university offices, attend to visitors, online and phone inquiries in a timely manner, to ensure the efficient operation of the department office
  • It will respond to the Academic Program Directors assignment of tasks and will interact with various offices on campus that work with these academic programs
  • Assists with supervision of 2-3 work study students.  Coordinates and prepares the comprehensive examinations for approximately 25 students each year
  • Assists 1-5 visitors and responds to 15-20 phone and email/web inquiries on a daily basis during peak time of year (beginning and end of semesters) and 5-10 daily during off-peak times
  • Posting 4-5 times a week to social media based on the department calendar
  • Make minor webpage updates (events, working papers) 1-2 times per week
  • Update program information and faculty information once a semester

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • 35-Non-exempt
  • Specialist B

Salary Range

  • $33,800 - $36,000

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two to three year’s relevant experience
  • Prior computer experience, good customer service skills, and ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of MS Office and ability to learn other programs is a must
