Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for providing career management advising to Kogod residential and online undergraduate & graduate students and alumni and serving in an account manager role for specified employer groups. As a member of the Career and Professional Development team, this position works with an assigned group of students, develops alumni and employer relationships, executes program marketing plans, coordinates career-and recruiting-related events, develops promotional and educational materials, manages projects and project budgets, and represents American University at national career fairs and professional conferences.

Work Environment

  • This position reports directly to the Director of Career and Professional Development
  • Reporting directly to Assistant Director, Career and Professional Development position are: Graduate Assistants & Federal Work Study Students (on an as needed basis)
  • Hold one-on-one advising appointments with an average of 5 to 8 students per day

  • Handle students' consultative emails in large numbers

  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for diverse student audiences ranging from freshman to second semester graduate students. The size of these workshops can range in size from 6 to 20 students

  • Incumbent conducts on-site visits with professionals in the corporate, non-profit, and public sectors-an average of 1 to 2 times per month, schedule permitting

  • Much of the outreach to the employer sector also includes university alumni

  • In addition to on-site visits, incumbent interacts by phone and e-mail with employers

  • Position may require some evening and weekend hours

  • Online virtual delivery experience preferred

Salary Range

  • Commensurate with experience

Required Education and Experience

  •  Bachelor’s degree
  • Three to five years of related experience in business, human resource management, graduate student recruiting (line or staff role), Graduate Career Services in a top-30 business school, or working with experienced professionals who are in career transition
  • Extensive knowledge of the DC and NY markets
  • Position requires solid communication and computer skills, along with excellent interpersonal, team-building, and presentation skills

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in a fast-paced professional service firm environment, certification in executive or career coaching, experience in a comparable role in another graduate business school, and/or extensive network of corporate or alumni contacts through previous work experience
  • Business experience in marketing, finance or consulting
  • Certification in MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory
