The Assistant Director administers all aspects of the study abroad programs for the JD students under supervision of Director of WCL Abroad and International Programs, including, but not limited to: semester exchanges, dual degrees, summer abroad programs and short term student abroad activities. The Assistant Director is responsible for maintaining the risk management system Terra Dotta software program and compliance with ABA requirements and site visits.  The Assistant Director with Director of WCL Abroad coordinates activities with WCL Abroad. The Assistant Director manages the summer abroad programs and is the on-site staff for some of the programs. Engages in JD student counseling limited to dual degree and semester exchange programs.

Essential Functions

  1. Administers WCL Study Abroad Programs: Design and administer all study abroad programs, including semester exchanges, dual degrees, summer abroad programs and short-term student abroad activities. Maintain and update multiple study abroad web pages on the WCL web site and detailed information about each program (curriculum, academic dates, contact staff and professors) and annually update guidelines for each abroad program.
  2. JD Student Counseling: Advise students with respect to their participation in study abroad programs, including all pre-departure orientation and risk management sessions, as well as provide emergency contact for all students studying abroad.
  3. Assists with editing monthly newsletter and external relations of the international suite for purpose of US News Ranking and other international rankings, such as the QS ranking and Shanghai ranking. Assist to understand the rankings and methodology including coordinating with partners.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • The position may supervise graduate assistant and/or deans fellow for WCL Abroad when available.

Salary Range

  • Commensurate with experience.

Required Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • The position requires excellent organizational, research, writing, and communication skills.
  • This position requires an independent decision maker who is comfortable working with minimum supervision yet who remains flexible, collaborative and creative. 
  • The successful employee is an accountable, highly motivated and organized person who prioritizes and works well under pressure.
  • The position requires a thorough knowledge of foreign and domestic law curriculum, an understanding of diverse foreign cultures and customs, as well as excellent organizational, research, writing, interpersonal, social and communication skills.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Preferred three years of full time work experience in an international legal environment.
  • Fluency in a second language is highly desirable.
