The Associate Dean for Budget and Administration provides leadership and oversight for financial and administrative operations of the College of Arts and Sciences. The position assists with strategic planning and implementation of initiatives related to the mission and vision of the College and the University.  As such, the Associate Dean develops, directs and executes the financial strategic plan for the College while maintaining compliance with university standards and budgetary guidelines.  This position facilitates funding and resource allocation for research and academic activities to ensure a consistent commitment to excellence and intellectual growth for the university. Additionally, the position is responsible for overseeing all faculty and staff personnel actions in the College, ensuring College compliance in all faculty, staff and student personnel matters, and is the primary liaison to the University’s Human Resources Office. This position requires minimal supervision and self-direction.

Work Environment

  • This position reports directly to CAS Dean
  • Reporting directly to this position are the Budget & Personnel Manager, the Faculty Affairs Manager, the Financial Operations Coordinator, the Faculty Personnel Coordinator and the Special Assistant to the Dean
  • The Associate Dean works directly with 19 departments and chairs of units on budget, personnel and resource allocation as well as with central administrative units such as Provost’s Office, Human Resources, Budget Office, and Controller’s Office

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • 35-Exempt

Salary Range

  • Commensurate with experience

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree
  • Minimum ten years of progressive administrative experience in an educational institution with demonstrated experience in budget development and management, strategic planning, resource allocation, programming, and supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with proven ability to establish and implement strategic priorities in a dynamic and high pressure environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty and staff, maintain confidentiality and interact well with diverse populations and different university constituencies, including faculty, staff, administrators, students, and alumni
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-directed in prioritization of tasks and initiatives and to adapt to changing priorities
