Design, implement, and market a variety of special events and programs in the DC metro area for AU alumni. These programs and services include, but are not limited to, All-American Weekend, class and affinity reunions, and other DC alumni events. Manage a corps of local and regional young alumni volunteers to engage with alumni programming efforts for the young alumni community. Work to increase alumni involvement with American University through development and maintenance of relevant programs. 

Work Environment

  • This position reports directly to the Director of Student and Young Alumni Engagement
  • The Associate Director, Special Events and Young Alumni Engagement works independently to develop programming for alumni that promotes the mission of AU and encourages long-term involvement with the university
  • The Associate Director also implements strategies to engage local volunteers in the conception and execution of local programming, alumni volunteers in the promotion of All-American Weekend

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • 35-Exempt
  • Sr. Coordinator/Sr. Analyst B

Salary Range

  • Commensurate with experience

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education, training or experience. Relevant graduate degree can substitute in part for experience

  • At least four years of successful experience in alumni or donor relations for educational institutions or non-profit organizations

  • Ability to independently formulate long-range strategic objectives, and manage varied programs and services. Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work independently

  • Demonstrated organizational and decision-making skills with follow-up abilities

  • Mature and professional attitude, customer/client focus

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills

  • Energetic and detail-oriented.

  • Significant experience in event planning, volunteer management, and direct marketing

  • Clear, concise reporting and writing style

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Availability to work some nights and weekends, as well as to travel, regionally and internationally
