Summary/Objective

Working in and reporting to the University Office of Development and Alumni Relations, the Chief Development Officer (“CDO”)for the School of Education (“SOE”) is the chief fundraiser for SOE at American University. The CDO works on behalf of the Dean of the School of Education, shaping and executing plans for fundraising to meet the financial needs of the Dean’s academic priorities for the School. The CDO will oversee all fundraising activities for SOE and will participate in the Dean’s leadership team in order to understand fully and discuss implications of academic programs for development. The CDO will also plan, implement, and oversee the major gift fundraising program for SOE with emphasis on gifts of $100,000 to $1,000,000+.

Work Environment

  • This position requires regular local and national travel approximately 25-40% of time
  • Position also requires occasional evening and weekend work

Salary Range

  • Commensurate with experience

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience
