Summary/Objective

This position provides first-line information about Career Center services, resources, events, and programs to more than 100 students, parents, faculty and employers daily via email, phone, and on-site visitor inquiry Many times, the Specialist is our clients’ first contact with the Career Center, so this role sets customer expectations for initial and future interactions with the office. Provide daily screening and routing of all incoming communication for an office of 28 full-time staff and for hundreds of job listings, and electronically manages appointment schedules for 16 advisors. Supports the Career Center staff by providing administrative support as needed, subject to seasonal workload shifts, including, but not limited to: facilitating internship agreement signatures, tracking internship fund paperwork, and assisting with Career Center events.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • 35-Nonexempt
  • Must be able to work one evening a week (Tuesday or Wednesday, TBD each semester in coordination with other staff)
Salary Range
  • $17.20-$19.00 hourly 
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • One year of customer service experience, demonstrating well-developed customer service and information management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to interact with a diverse set of clientele with a high level of professionalism and diplomacy
  • Must be able to perform multiple tasks, work under pressure, and communicate with friendliness and comfort
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team •
  • Attention to detail; reliable
  • Proficiency with MS Office Word and Excel
  • Experience with scheduling software or a demonstrated ability to learn new software
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Work or academic experience in a college/university setting
  • Experience in a busy office environment 
  • Experience with technology and/or online resources used by the AU Career Center
