Summary/Objective

The Director of Graduate Admissions at the American University Washington College of Law (WCL) develops and executes the strategic vision for student recruitment and admissions for WCL’s five highly ranked post-J.D. graduate programs.  The position supervises a Coordinator Graduate Programs Admissions and collaborates with the Faculty Directors of the five graduate programs, which are: the International Legal Studies Program (ILSP), the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP), the Program on Law and Government (L&G), the Trial Advocacy Program, and the S.J.D. Program.  The position reports to the Vice Dean of WCL.

Work Environment

  • Position requires approximately 25% time travel, with approximately 15% of that domestic and 10% international

  • Incumbent will have the desire and ability to travel and to build and use an extensive professional network as relevant to the position description

  • Represent WCL at national, international and regional professional conferences as relevant

  • Provide occasional presentations to educate the law school and the broader legal community about WCL’s post J.D. graduate program activities and achievements

Salary Range

  • Commensurate with experience

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's degree or educational equivalent involving study of and immersion in fields related to higher education, marketing, communications, business, management or other relevant areas

  • 8 years of experience in marketing and admissions in higher education

    5 years in high-level management, planning and executing overall strategic vision, and team supervision

  • A successful track record of working collaboratively and developing productive working relationships with multiple constituencies, including students, faculty and staff, and alumni
  • A strong interest and track record in promoting diversity and inclusion in student admissions
  • Excellent ability to solve complex problems and be creative and innovative
  • Proven ability to use technology to analyze data, manage projects, and facilitate decision-making
  • Experience and proven ability to assess and adapt to rapidly changing marketing and admissions environments in higher education

     

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctor

  • 8-10 years of relevant experience

  • Experience with relevant admissions and database software, including LSAC, ACES2, and Colleague
