Summary/Objective

The Director of Pre-College Programs is responsible for overseeing the pre-college programs offered by the School of International Service as well as the AU-wide College Credit Option offered for participating students in the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC).  This position serves as the university’s key administrative liaison with (1) the NSLC headquarters in Chicago, (2) the AU faculty from the various academic units that teach in the program (currently SIS, CAS, SOC, and SPA) (3) other administrative units in the university, and (4) the primary university contact and advisor for the participating and prospective students of the program.
 
In addition, the Director oversees SIS’ Community of Scholars program, a 3-credit high school summer residential program, and the AU High School Summer Scholars Program. The Director is responsible for marketing/recruiting, admissions, programming, administering, and managing all aspects of these programs. The Director advises participating and prospective students as well as performs outreach to local DC-area high schools.  The Director will be responsible for strategizing and implementing approaches to demonstrate AU’s Inclusive Excellence across our high school programs. They are responsible for tracking, organizing, and analyzing data and providing key reports to participating and administrative and academic units as well as to the Provost’s Office.

Essential Functions

  1. Program Management: The Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the pre-college online and residential programs housed in SIS: the AU-wide NSLC College Credit Option, SIS’s Community of Scholars (COS), and AU High School Summer Scholars. Duties include but are not limited to  developing and implementing program content while taking into account program trends and strategic objectives; managing the administrative aspects of creating courses and hiring faculty (and liaising with other AU academic units when needed); instructing faculty on program details and expectations; and developing strategies and implementing approaches that demonstrate AU’s inclusive excellence in participation, community learning, and successful completion of programs. The Director, in collaboration with the Office of Financial Operations, is responsible for developing budgets for the three programs.
  2. Marketing/Recruitment: In consultation with the Sr. Director of Strategic Partnerships, the Director develops the national and international recruiting strategy. They execute the strategy through the creation of marketing materials and by representing SIS and AU at pre-college recruiting events. 
  3. Student Support: The position oversees the application and registration process for pre-college programs, making sure students are processed accurately and timely. The position is responsible for monitoring the programs’ email accounts and answering student and parent inquiries. 
  4. Data/Program Analysis: The Director compiles and analyzes enrollment data and prepares reports. They conduct research, when appropriate and necessary, on issues relevant to programs. They analyze and report on trends for the various participating academic departments and the Provost’s Office.
  5. Other Duties as Assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Supervision of a part-time staff member and has supervisory responsibility for pre-college Adjunct faculty.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Full Time.
  • Project Leader/Advisor B.
  • Exempt.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours are required during the summer months.
  • This position is on a hybrid work arrangement, 2-3 days/week working remotely. Subject to change based on university needs. 

Salary Range

  • Commensurate with experience.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing academic programs with increasing responsibility.
  • Minimum 3 years of managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in student recruitment & experiential learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of comfort in dealing with the public.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and attention to details.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's degree.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience.
