The Employee Relations Advisor will aid in the resolution process for employees and supervisors in employee relations cases and conduct investigations.  The position serves as a resource to staff on university policies and procedures for coaching on performance, disciplinary actions, accommodations, terminations, and other workplace matters.  Incumbent will also conduct research and prepare reports on changes in employment legislation and make recommendations for internal practices. The position will also assist with employment policy training and other HR projects such as assigned.

Essential Functions

  1. Serve as contact for employees and supervisors for dispute/problems that arise in the workplace. This will include disciplinary, performance, and/or conduct issues. Serve as fact finder and investigator to determine the nature and extent of the workplace problem. Provide written report of investigation or fact-finding. Communicate appropriate information with parties during the process.  Provide applicable university policy, procedure and workplace regulations to employees and supervisors for aid in resolution.
  2. Coordinate and analyze ADA reasonable accommodation requests.  Coordinate with third-party vendor to open claims, track claims, and review recommendations. Engage in interactive process with employee and supervisor, as needed, to evaluate requests.  Work with employee/supervisor to communicate and implement any approved requests.  Monitor process and identify opportunities for improvements.   
  3. Coordinate responses to complaints/grievances.  Ensure correct policy/procedure is followed.  Assist complainants/respondent with staff complaint/grievance process.  Notify appropriate parties.  Provide appropriate assistance in resolution of complaints according to applicable policy (fact finding, mediation/meeting facilitation, etc).
  4. Conduct research on HR best practices and compliance efforts at universities and other employers. Prepare reports on this information to inform HR processes and procedures.  Collaborate with team members to revise procedures and processes. Assist with other HR projects as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This is an individual contributor role.  Individual must have the ability to independently complete work products and collaborate with others for input and coordinate across various stakeholders.

Salary Range

  • Up to mid 80s, to commensurate with experience.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's degree
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience
