Summary/Objective

The Events Coordinator will work closely with the Director to plan, organize, staff and execute a variety of events aimed to diversify and engage our audiences, including, but not limited to: donor and/or membership events, co-branded events with key partners, black-tie galas, live program-related events, open houses, town halls, receptions, Community Council meetings, , and other events as identified.  This person will play an integral role in executing a robust events strategy.

Work Environment

  • This position reports directly to the WAMU 88.5 Director of Partnerships & Events with additional oversight of the Senior Director of Marketing and Engagement. In cooperation with the Director, helps to supervise part-time or work study students as needed and volunteers who support events
  • Able to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed
  • Able to lift 30 pounds
  • Able to stand/walk for long periods of time supporting events
  • This is position is considered essential staff

Salary Range

  • Commensurate with experience

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience in event planning, contracting, project management or corporate relations
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills 
  • Experience developing event planning materials, briefing documents, work schedules and budget forms
  • Experience coordinating volunteers and other staff at events
  • Demonstrated success in independent execution of small events
  • Ability to motivate, inform and organize large groups of staff and volunteers and delegate tasks appropriately
  • Tenacity for gathering and sharing events information and obtaining buy-in and approvals from senior managers in a timely manner
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with a CRM database and Eventbrite software
  • Ability to support social media event marketing on multiple platforms including: Facebook, Facebook Live, Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin
  • Strong interpersonal skills a must
  • Requires a team-oriented individual who is comfortable taking on many tasks and juggling multiple events simultaneously and in a fast- paced environment

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience in media organizations or public media
  • Experience with statistical reporting and analysis
  • Knowledge of DC/MD/VA event venues including: museums, hotels, theaters, universities, concert halls, and parks
  • Experience in contract negotiations and the RFP process
