Summary/Objective

The Executive Assistant ensures the smooth and effective functioning of the office of the General Manager, who oversees all aspects of American University’s public radio station, WAMU. The Executive Assistant also supports the Associate General Manager, Chief of Staff and collaborates with an administrative team to support as needed the directors of content, marketing and communications, philanthropy, and technology, collectively known as WAMU’s leadership team. This position serves as the primary internal and external point of contact for all matters relating to the office of the General Manager, including serving as liaison to support groups, major donors, outside boards, senior staff, and other constituencies. This is a highly visible position within the organization and externally with people of influence in the Washington region and requires a high level of professionalism and discretion.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree or equivalent

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience

  • Understanding and appreciation of public media and its role in the community
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and judgment
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Team player who is comfortable working independently on multiple tasks
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint to prepare briefings, reports and presentations
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential issues and materials proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • High level of customer service skills
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work in a rapidly changing environment

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
