Facilities Maintenance Technician (13611)

The role of this position is to provide a safe, functional, clean, efficient and attractive living and learning environment.  This position performs work at a skilled, licensed level in one or more trades in university facilities.  Responsibilities include work involving: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC and painting.  This position will be involved in corrective and preventive maintenance and minor alteration work and may oversee temporary labor and/or other trades persons or contractors as required.

Work Environment

  • This position requires general supervision and often works independently
  • This position is part of a zone maintenance team of trade persons responsible for a defined set of buildings on campus.  Zone teams consist of about 12-15 persons who are part of Facilities Operations and respond to work orders
  • This position reports directly to Building Maintenance Supervisor 
  • The zone is comprised of one Building Maintenance Engineer, two Facilities Maintenance Technicians, and one Electrician
  • Trades technicians work independently and cooperatively with other Facility Management and University departments along with contract trade personnel in order to maintain building systems, prevent facility problems when possible and respond to customer requests or emergencies
  • Zone teams respond to 5,000 to 8,000 requests for maintenance, service or repair per year
  • Occasionally functions as a team leader of a 2 to 5 member project team
  • This position has no budget responsibility but is able to order materials at the direction of the zone maintenance supervisor

Salary Range

  • $29.90 - $32.67/hour

Required Education and Experience

  • Journeyman’s Certification in 1 or more Trades (3-5 years)
  • Green Associate's or Green O & M (1 year)
  • Advance knowledge of all trades
  • 1 to 2 years experience or knowledge - EM Systems, Bas or Commission
  • 3 – 5 years General Construction or Maintenance Experience
  • Facilities Technician Certification (1-2 years)
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office
  • 2 -3 years CMMS Experience
  • Basic troubleshooting Skills
  • EMS or BAS Usage (1 – 2 years)       

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s Trade Certification
  • Associate’s degree
  • 1 or more years as a Supervisor or Team Leader
  • Project management experience
