Part-time CTRL Event and Program Coordinator (4266)

Summary/Objective

The CTRL Event and Program Coordinator serves American University faculty and staff by carrying out functions as Event Coordinator and Program Coordinator.

 

As Event Coordinator, the position provides event management support services.  Among the events CTRL conducts each year are Teaching, Research, and Technology Workshops, the Ann Ferren Teaching Conference, Faculty Orientations, Noontime Conversations, Faculty as Learners Workshops, the AU Entrée Teaching Workshops, and the Pedagogy-Driven Instructional Workshops. Because of the need for assistance on the dates of some of these events, the individual in this position is required to work during the two weeks prior to the beginning of the fall semester; during the week prior to the beginning of the spring semester; and during the two weeks after the end of the spring semester. Services may include organization and timeline tracking, creating outreach plans, collaborating with CTRL’s Graphic Design and Web Specialist on the design marketing materials and websites, contacting media outlets; plan implementation/management; and event video-production. Knowledge of design software such as InDesign and Illustrator as well as experience using the WordPress platform is preferred. Basic video editing skills are preferred. Event management and marketing experience, especially working with senior managers, senior scholars and university faculty is a plus.

 

As Program Coordinator, the position provides administrative support for managing CTRL’s ongoing programs. Among the programs CTRL spearheads are the Green Teaching Program, the Partners in Teaching Program, the Greenberg Program for Effective Teaching, the AU Entrée Program, and various Faculty Learning Communities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • The position is a part-year, 30-week position at 15-20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, with optional hourly work during spring, summer, and winter breaks (with the exception of the two weeks prior to the beginning of the fall semester; the week prior to the beginning of the spring semester; and the two weeks after the end of the spring semester, when work is required due to major events)
  • A two-year commitment is preferred, but less may be considered in the case of an exceptional candidate.

 

Salary Range

  • $15 - $18/hr

Required Education and Experience

  • MA/MFA candidate or degree holder or Ph.D. candidate
  • The individual filling this position must be creative, results oriented, excel in customer service and have strong administrative skills
  • Must be able to exercise initiative, work independently, multitask, and project a professional image at all times
  • Expertise in two or more of the following is required:  Microsoft Office suite, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, SharePoint, WordPress, and iMovie

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of design software such as InDesign and Illustrator as well as experience using the WordPress platform 
  • Basic video editing skills
  • Event management and marketing experience, especially working with senior managers, senior scholars and university faculty
