Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for organizing and coordinating the day-to-day office operations and procedures for the Office of Graduate Studies and Research (OGSR) in order to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency.  The incumbent works with the Vice Provost of Research and Dean of Graduate Studies (VPR-DGS) and management team on a wide range of strategic initiatives and established operational functions.  The position contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and procedures and has responsibility for coordination of the implementation of tasks and procedures associated with a broad set of administrative and project management functions.

Position reports directly to the VPR-DGS.  This position works closely with both the VRP-DGS, the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, the Graduate Enrollment Management Recruitment Communications staff, OSP staff, Office of Research and Integrity Manager, as well as representatives of academic units, the Office of Financial Aid, Human Resources. This position works directly with the Office of Provost and across all units in Academic Affairs and the university as it relates to graduate studies’ merit-based graduate and graduate research scholarship, graduate financial aid, internal faculty research scholarship, and assist with faculty training and research support services.

This position works under minimal supervision.

Salary Range

  • $44,954 - $50,000

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience

  • At least 3 years of experience providing administrative office and project support for an executive
  • The incumbent must have excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, communication skills with attention to detail and high level of accuracy

  • Must have initiative and the ability to work under pressure on multiple tasks, must be dependable and must be highly discreet

  • Proficiency in MS Office software, MS Outlook, and internet research

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Working experience in American University offices
  • Experience in scheduling/planning events
