Under the direction of the Director of Development, Athletics and Recreation, and in concert with the Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations, the Assistant Director of Development, Athletics and Recreation will build and manage a comprehensive annual and special gifts program (known as Eagles Club) for the Department of Athletics and Recreation. The Assistant Director will be responsible for solicitation of annual and special gifts through cultivation and stewardship and will build a trusted pipeline through strategy.


The incumbent will increase broad-based philanthropic support, grow constituents’ engagement, support and attendance at major department events, maintain development databases, financial reporting, and contribute specific development content to fundraising collateral, social media, alumni outreach and development publications.


In all these capacities, the Assistant Director participates in overall Office of Development activities in support of the broader objectives of the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations and the Director of Athletics.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution, Master’s degree preferred
  • Two to five years of experience in development or another field (such as sales, marketing, public relations, alumni relations, event management) showing progressive responsibilities, and with demonstrated success in closing annual gifts
  • Experience in a college athletic department (as employee and/or former student-athlete), higher education or communication-related environment preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers – either on boards, committees, or in completion of assigned responsibilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills demonstrated by clear, concise, and persuasive writing, public speaking, and private discourse
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated experience successfully working with persons from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent analytical, research, and time management skills
  • Experience analyzing and reporting on fundraising data
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
  • High-level proficiency with MS Office programs (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point), social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), fundraising systems (CRM Advance a plus), and e-communications strategies
  • Experience using fundraising databases, specifically Ellucian CRM Advanced, is preferred but not required
