2023 EDC Coordinator

Summary/Objective

The Center for Community Engagement & Service seeks to hire three AU undergraduate students as EDC student Program Coordinators for the summer of 2023 to provide support for the planning and implementation of the Explore DC Program.  This is a 3-month position starting June 5, 2023 and ending at the beginning of the Fall semester in September 2023. The Program Coordinator’s duties will include program design, outreach and recruitment of incoming first year students, as well as to local nonprofits, program logistics and other organizing and administrative tasks.  

Explore DC 2023 is a multi-prong program that includes community service in DC, neighborhood visits and evening programming. It is aimed at incoming students during All American Welcome; it takes place the week before fall classes begin. The program highlights the social justice issues faced in the DC Metro area and educates first year students on the importance of service and getting to know the city where they will be living in the coming years. This role will work closely with CCES staff. A smaller portion of this role will include supporting other CCES programming and office work.  

Responsibilities

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills 
  • Attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to multi-task and manage diverse activities 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and social media 
  • Strong written, oral and communication skills     
  • An interest and/or experience in community service or service-learning 
  • Knowledge of DC area nonprofit organizations and/ or schools (valuable but not required) 

Other Experience

  • Commitment to urban social justice issues and the role of the nonprofit sector. 
  • Training or group facilitation experience 
  • Past participation in EDC as a participant or leader is a plus but not required. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position would begin June 5, 2023 and end September 2023. The position is likely a mix of remote and in person work. We will need some assistance in recruiting for leaders before the end of the 2022 Spring semester, but otherwise it will be an average of 18 hours per week in June, 20-25 hours weekly in July and 35 hours per week in August. During the All-American Welcome Week in August, please expect hours to extend into the evening.

Wages

  • The pay is DC’s minimum wage, $16.10 per hour, which is set to increase to $17 per hour in July.
