Are you interested in using technology to create a more inclusive digital world?  Join our Digital Accessibility team and help make websites and other digital products equally accessible to all users.
 
Digital accessibility is the inclusive practice of fixing the technology problems that prevent people with disabilities from equally accessing digital resources like websites, emails, PDFs, images, and documents.  In this role as Digital Accessibility Assistant, you will get hands on experience testing websites, reporting problems, and researching solutions. You will help American University create websites that are more accessible for users with vision impairments, hearing disabilities, and other physical or cognitive conditions.

Essential Functions

To succeed in this role, you need to be comfortable learning new web technologies and have basic HTML and CSS knowledge. You do not need to have digital accessibility experience to qualify for this position, we will teach you. This is a great opportunity for candidates interested if growing their skills as a web designer, web programmer, website administrator, or other web related field. 
 
Responsibilities:
  1. Test websites and PDFs by using automated scanning tools and following manual test plans.
  2. Research solutions for problems found in testing.
  3. Research and write help articles about technology topics.
  4. Write and design training documents.
  5. Communicate with clients to solve website related problems.
  6. Assist with monthly and weekly status updates.
  7. Participate in project team meetings. 

Salary Range

  • $16.10/hour.

Required Education and Experience

•    Must be a current student at American University.
•    Some experience coding HTML and CSS.
•    Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Power Point, and Excel.
•    Experience using Chrome and FireFox web browsers. 
•    Experience editing images for websites.
•    Experience with Windows 10 operating system.
•    Good writing and communication skills.
•    Must be well organized and detail oriented.
•    Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills
•    Strong customer service focus.
