Graduate Events Associate (Student Wages)

The Graduate Events Associate will work with events management staff to oversee front-of-house operations and Katzen facilities during events. Duties include basic facilities oversight to ensure satisfaction of patrons and performers. The Graduate Events Associate is responsible for oversight of facility users, as well as ticket office and front of house staff in order to maintain adherence to policies and fire code. The Events Associate will be cross-trained in all areas of patron services, and may be responsible for ticket sales, program distribution, closing the venue after performances, and reporting on facility use. The Events Associate is at all times expected to act in a professional manner as a representative of the Katzen Arts Center.  

 

This position requires strong customer service ability and attitude. The successful candidate must be able to deal with the public in a professional manner. Appropriate attire is mandatory when working. Work schedule is fixed during regular business hours and vary depending on performance schedule. Hours available may be weekdays, weekends, day or evening.

About the Katzen

The Katzen Arts Center brings all the visual and performing arts programs at AU into one 130,000 square foot space. Designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in the arts, the center provides state-of-the-art instructional, exhibition, and performance space for all the arts disciplines.

Essential Functions

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Ticket Office Assistants (Undergraduate Students).

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • 10-20 hours per week.

Salary Range

  • $17.00/hour.

Required Education and Experience

  • Must be a current American University Graduate Student.

Ticket Office Supervising

  • Scheduling student staff for events.
  • Supervising ticket sales using universitytickets.com platform.
  • Occasionally processing tickets and complementary tickets.
  • Train student staff as necessary.
  • Manage funds in cash drawer and ticket office safe. Follow procedures for record keeping and supervising undergraduate ticket office assistants when dealing with cash.

Front of House Supervising

  • Prepare and maintain performance venues (including support of stage set-up, when necessary) and lobby areas for shows and events.
  • Act as a liaison and maintain contact with events management staff and coordinators throughout performances and events (including tech, backstage, Ticket Office Supervisor, front of house, and all visiting event coordinators).
  • Act as the immediate contact person for undergraduate event employees.
  • Remain available and visible to patrons and undergraduate staff throughout performance to solve any problems that may arise.

Customer Service

  • Project a professional manner to events management staff and patrons.
  • Adhere to dress code and all event policies.
  • Create an environment where patrons feel valued and supported.
