American University’s Office of Alumni Relations has programming, communications and research projects available for graduate students seeking practical experience in alumni relations, student affairs, multi-cultural/identity outreach, and events management. Graduate Student Interns (GSI) should have strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and enjoy working with multiple projects at the same time.

The Graduate Student Intern for Alumni Affinity Engagement involves the engagement of AU alumni, undergraduates and graduate students joined by similar characteristics that suggest a relationship with a principal focus on identity (gender, multicultural, sexual orientation) and special interests (sustainability, political, etc.). This portfolio includes the annual Multicultural Alumni Reunion, PRIDE activities, alumnae events, and the Alumni Engagement Award program management.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • 18-22 hours/week

Salary Range

  • $15.00 - $16.00/hr

Required Education and Experience

  • Be enrolled in a Master's Degree (or other advanced degree) program at American University
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent research and analytical skills and the ability to review and summarize large amounts of information
  • Good computer and IT skills with greatest focus on MS Office product

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign and/or HTML is ideal
