Summary/Objective

The New Media Center (NMC) is a Macintosh lab located on the lower level of the University Library. The NMC is home to 11 MacPro computers which run a wide variety of multimedia development applications. Patrons use NMC resources to edit videos, create podcasts, develop websites, create animations and motion graphics and even model 3D images.

 

The NMC’s mission is divided into four key services:

  • The NMC provides and maintains workstations where Users may use high-level multimedia development software and hardware.
  • The NMC staff provides close software, hardware and aesthetic support of User’s multimedia projects.
  • The NMC staff conducts on demand training sessions for students and faculty each semester.

 

Consultants begin their time at the NMC with a comprehensive training program. This regimen is designed to enable the Consultant to work independently in the NMC and solve 90% of all technical and service requests that arise in the NMC.

 

The NMC Consultant’s primary duty is to assist users with their multimedia projects. Consultants work with users to solve problems with software and aesthetics.  From time to time, solutions to technical problems are not obvious and Consultants are expected to use a variety of internal and external resources to discover a way to resolve the issue.  Furthermore, since the NMC serves Users from a variety of academic programs, Consultants must communicate complex technical concepts to patrons of varying skill levels.

 

Consultants are also responsible for a number of other service-related and administrative duties including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Conscientious collection of daily usage data
  • Maintenance of NMC computers including software installation and updating
  • Enforcement of NMC polices
  • Completion of professional development goals
  • Completion of special projects as assigned by supervisory staff. These projects range from creating posters for advertising various NMC services to producing tutorial videos

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Up to 20 hours per week. 

Salary Range

  • $13.25/hr

Required Education and Experience

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Candidates will have robust experience with the OS X operating system and demonstrated expertise in Final Cut Pro iMovie and Photoshop. The candidate will possess the ability to explain difficult technical concepts to Users of all skill levels; have strong problem solving skills; have excellent written and oral communication skills; be able to pay close attention to technical details; and possess demonstrated customer service experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Demonstrated competency with web design (HTML/CSS) is highly desirable. Experience with Adobe CC package is desirable. Experience shooting digital video, digital stills, recording digital audio and/or video color correction is also desirable.
