The Center for Teaching, Research & Learning (CTRL) is American University's catalyst for inspiring, mentoring, and celebrating faculty in their roles as teachers and researchers.


The Part-Time Event and Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all CTRL-sponsored programs and events. In consultation with the Associate Director of Programs and Events and the Program and Event Coordinator, they participate in the planning and implementation of virtual and on-campus events, providing program and event management support services, including event space logistics, A/V equipment support, recording of events, and other logistical support, as well as marketing support, including social media maintenance and website updates.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • The position is a part-year, 30 week position at 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, with optional hourly work during spring, summer, and winter breaks (with the exception of the two weeks prior to the beginning of the fall semester, the week prior to the beginning of the spring semester, and the week following the end of the spring semester, when work is required due to major events)

Salary Range

  • $18 - $20 per hour

Required Education and Experience

  • MA/MFA candidate or degree holder or Ph.D. candidate
  • The individual filling this position must be creative, results oriented, excel in customer service and have strong administrative skills
  • Must be able to exercise initiative, work independently, multitask, and project a professional image at all times
  • Expertise in two or more of the following is required: Microsoft Office suite, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, WordPress, and iMovie

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of design software such as InDesign and Illustrator as well as experience using the WordPress platform 
  • Basic video editing skills
  • Event management and marketing experience, especially working with senior managers, senior scholars and university faculty
