Part-time Library Operations Assistant

Summary

The Part-Time Library Operations Assistant oversees the punctual opening and closing of the Bender Library building and monitors conditions and activities in the Library to ensure the security and well-being of Library patrons and the Library’s collection. The Operations Assistant also provides information to patrons at the Information Desk, enforces Library policies, responds to emergency situations, and serves as the department’s courier for campus deliveries. The incumbent serves in a general leadership and supervisory role for student assistants at the Information Desk, Graduate Research Center, and the Receiving Room and provides troubleshooting support for personal computers and the library’s public computers and printers.

Expected Hours of Work

Available to work some combination of the following shifts. Working one weekend shift is a requirement of this position:
  • Sunday: 9:30AM-4PM
  • Monday: 7:30AM-11:30AM
  • Tuesday: 7:30AM-11:30AM
  • Wednesday: 7:30AM-11:30AM
  • Thursday: 7:30AM-11:30AM
  • Friday: 3PM-9:30PM
  • Saturday: 4:30PM-9:30PM

Salary Range

  • $19.00/hour 

Required Education

  • Minimum 4 Semesters (2 Years) of undergraduate Experience, Graduate Students Preferred.

Minimum Requirements

  • Sound judgment with the ability to use discretion, work independently.
  • Ability to collaborate on many different levels and resolve problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, including the ability to reprioritize tasks to resolve urgent issues that arise.
  • Must be able to convey a positive public image with a professional attitude. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer hardware and software. Knowledge of the Library of Congress classification system, the library’s online catalog, and the operations of the library’s various service desks.
  • Ability to lift and push up to 50 pounds. 
  • Previous experience with supervising, training, and evaluating part time students. 
  • Act ethically and with Integrity; support a Diverse and Inclusive community; ability to solve problems effectively and collaboratively; ability to demonstrate civility and respect in the workplace. 

Preferred Requirements

  • Some managerial or leadership experience and/or prior library experience. General knowledge of campus and Library facilities and locations.
