Position Summary

University College seeks to hire a program assistant.  The program assistant will provide support for the planning and implementation of co-curricular activities, marketing and recruitment efforts, assessment and other administrative tasks. The University College program is a living-learning community that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving through transformative co-curricular experiences and other social activities. Primary Duties

  • Assist with the design, planning and implementation of program activities, including welcome activities, program-wide events, cohort-based events, and speaker series.

  • Assist with all event planning logistics, including room reservations, catering requests, attendance tracking, and preparation of written materials, as necessary.

  • Assist with the supervision and support of 40 undergraduate Program Leaders

  • Assist and follow-up with all Program Leader co-curricular programming

  • Assist in presenting and coordinating with current University College students to present at various admissions events throughout the Fall and Spring semesters.

  • Respond to prospective student program inquiries via phone and email.

  • Schedule meetings with prospective students and their families. 

  • Coordinate regular posts on social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)

  • Coordinate design and content for the program advertisements and mailers

  • Develop content for biweekly cohort-based newsletters

  • Daily monitoring of University College email address

  • Participate in weekly check-in meetings with program staff

  • Maintain budget records for program expenditures and credit card reconciliation

Minimum Qualifications Including Education

Must be enrolled in a  full-time graduate program at American University. 1-2 years of equivalent professional experience preferred.   

  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Previous event planning and administrative support experience
  • Attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines required
  • Ability to multi-task and manage diverse activities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written, oral and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with undergraduate students. 

Salary Range

  • $19.50/hour - $20.50/hour

Additional Information about the Position

  • This position is available starting immediately. The position is part-time (20-25 hours per week) and the regular hours are expected to be between 9 – 5.  Some night and weekend commitments will be required.
