Receiving Student Assistant

  • The Receiving Room Student Assistant answers the Receiving door, sorts and distributes incoming mail and shipments (boxes can weigh up to 50 lbs.), and notifies library staff of their shipment's arrival. Additionally, the student ensures the security of a library entrance. The primary responsibilities of this position include:
      • Unlock the Receiving door at 9 AM, and lock it at 5 PM
      • Answer the doorbell and accept deliveries throughout the day
      • Sort incoming mail and packages
      • Maintain Excel sheet of package information
      • Label and sort packages for quarantine after arrival
      • Notify library faculty/staff of their shipment’s arrival
      • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Department

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • 10-15 hours per week.

Salary Range

  • $16.00

Required Education and Experience

Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent. Students must be enrolled in classes at AU as a student. Undergraduate or graduate students are welcome to apply.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to follow established procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Familiarity with Google Sheets and/or Excel.
