Student Explore DC Program Coordinator

Summary/Objective

The Center for Community Engagement & Service seeks to hire three EDC student Program Coordinators for the summer of 2021 to provide support for the planning and implementation of the Explore DC Program.  This is a 3-month position starting June 2021 and ending August 2021. The Program Coordinator’s duties will include program design, outreach and recruitment of incoming first and second-year students as well as to local nonprofits, program logistics and other administrative tasks. Explore DC 2021 is a multi-prong program that includes service in DC, neighborhood visits and evening programming. It is aimed at incoming students during All American Welcome, which spans 7-9 days in the middle of August. This program highlights the social justice issues the DC Metro area faces and educates first and second-year students on the importance of service and getting to know the city they will be living in, in the coming years. This role will work closely with CCES staff. A smaller portion of this role will include supporting other CCES programming and office work. Student staff will be expected to work part of their time in the office and the other will be remote.

Education Requirement

  • Must be an undergraduate student in the Fall of 2021 at AU

  • Ability to multi-task and manage diverse activities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and social media
  • Strong written, oral and communication skills    
  • An interest and/or experience in community service or service-learning
  • Partial on-campus attendance
  • Knowledge of DC area nonprofit organizations and/ or school (valuable but not required)

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of urban social justice issues and the role of the nonprofit sector.
  • Training or group facilitation experience

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This position would begin in June 2021 and end August 2021. The position is a mix of remote and in person part-time postion. With an average of 15 hours per week in June, 15-20hrs starting July 1st and potentially 30-35hrs in August. During the All American Welcome Week in August, please expect hours to extend into the evening.

Salary Range

  • DC Minimum Wage - Currently $15 per hour.
