Summary

Student Fundraisers serve as catalysts for making an impact on campus through alumni interaction and fundraising. Alumni donations enable American University to provide scholarships, support campus operational needs, and improve student life. Student Fundraisers advocate for the importance of philanthropy and serve as ambassadors for the university. Through this position, Student Fundraisers will be given the opportunity to strengthen their interpersonal communication skills and expand their network while soliciting gifts for the university. It is a unique opportunity to catch a glimpse of life post-gradution while creating a lasting impact as a student.

Work Environment

AU Phonathon allows for full telework possibilities. In response to COVID-19, all shifts are currently conducted via Zoom. Access to stable internet, a computer/web camera, and headphones are essential for this position. AU Phonathon is able to make some accommodations within reason. All shifts are conducted according to the Eastern Time zone. Living outside the Eastern Time zone does not exclude applicants automatically. This serves as a reminder that time zones are an additional aspect to consider when applying. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Student Fundraisers will be expected work twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30pm ET - 7:30pm ET. This is a modified schedule for summer employment and does not reflect AU Phonathon employment practices for the Fall/Spring semesters. If you would like to remain employed with AU Phonathon after the summer months, please know that attendance expectations will be different.

Salary Range

  • The starting wage is $15.00/hour.

Required Education and Experience

  • Applicants must be current AU students.

Other Duties

While employed at AU Phonathon, Student Fundraisers will be expected to:

  • Utilize the calling software, VanillaSoft, to secure alumni gifts
  • Educate prospective alumni/parent donors on the importance of philanthropy in addition to updating them on campus news, needs, and events
  • Attend trainings/retreats to evaluate and improve individual performance on and off the phone
