Summary/Objective

The Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) is part of the American University Office of Development and Alumni Relations. OAR is a lively and fast-paced office of twelve full-time employees aided by student assistants helping to deliver experiences and resources to more than 135,000 university alumni. Our team aims to provide student assistants with professional opportunities to enrich their student experiences and enhance their resumes. The ideal student assistant is motivated to and enjoys engaging alumni in the life of the university.  OAR is seeking a detail-oriented student program assistant who will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative and program-driven responsibilities throughout the summer. The student assistant will assist with the implementation and management of summer student and alumni programming, including the Alumni and Community Audit programs and Alumni Admissions Volunteer program. This role will also support other members of the alumni relations team as needed. Students interested in gaining experience in alumni relations and program and data management are encouraged to apply.

Essential Functions

  • Consolidate and update alumni information through analyzing data in Excel spreadsheets, conducting online research, and logging alumni touchpoints in our database
  • Draft emails, including event reminders and thank you emails to students and alumni
  • Provide backend support for Zoom events, such as tracking attendance and managing breakout rooms
  • Organize and track application materials for the Alumni and Community Audit programs
  • Assist the Assistant Director, Alumni Outreach and other alumni relations staff with administrative tasks as needed

Work Environment

  • This position reports to the Assistant Director, Alumni Outreach
  • 100% remote telework

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Part-time (approx. 10 hours per week)
  • Monday – Thursday afternoons
  • Occasional weekday evening availability a plus
  • Summer 2021 (May through August) with the potential to extend through the fall 2021 semester.
  • This position is open to both those who do and do not qualify for Federal Work Study (FWS).

Salary Range

  • $15/hr.

Required Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at American University
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail a must
  • Ability to manage and prioritize concurrent projects and deadlines
  • Reliable access to internet and a laptop or desktop computer

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience using online collaboration platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • Experience or familiarity with CRM and data management systems
