Student Support & Outreach Graduate Assistant

Summary/Objective

Objective CDI is seeking a graduate student to provide support to the center’s multicultural student programs and initiatives. We are seeking a team player interested in enhancing the experience of all students, understanding the campus climate, and collaborating with campus partners and administrative offices. Successful candidates must be knowledgeable about multi-layered topics of identity, including ability, race, religious belief and practice, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, racial identity, and ethnicity.

Expectations

  • Manage student support programs through facilitation and design
  • Manage CDI inbox and social media
  • Oversee Center’s branding, messaging, and representation through communications and marketing
  • Oversee newsletter content with Social Media, Communications & Outreach Program Assistant
  • Support co-sponsorship process
  • Oversee Center’s website content with Graphics Design & Administrative Assistant
  • Support book scholarship process with correspondence to scholars, purchasing books, and fiscal reports
  • Develop and implements variety of student support programs & initiatives
  • Research, assess, and benchmark other campus educational & support programs
  • Provide administrative support for & during Center’s programs & operations to admit participants, track attendance, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned with general office support

Qualifications

  • Special consideration for candidates with strong facilitation skills and experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with student of color and identity-based programs and services
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills (written and verbal) with attention to inclusive language
  • Strong organization skills to effectively manage multiple priorities with impeccable attention to detail
  • Knowledgeable of multi-layered aspects of identity, including ability, race, religious belief and practice, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, racial identity and ethnicity.
  • Proficient in social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
  • Graphics design knowledge
  • Works well with diverse students, staff, and faculty on collaborative projects
  • Ability to provide program recommendations based on students’ needs
  • Critical thinker and innovative problem solver
  • Ability to take initiative independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility and creativity

Experience

  • Experience with academic, social, cultural and identity-based programs and services
  • Previous teaching, training, and/or event planning experience is recommended
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office; website development; able to learn new programs; and comfortable with technology 

Expected Hours of Work

  • This position will work up to 20 hours per week, occasional evenings, and require some weekend hours.
  • This position will be required to conduct campus-wide trainings.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree and enrollment in an American University graduate program for the 2021-2022 academic year (AU graduate students enrolling Fall 2021 can apply).

Salary

  • This position pays $ 16.00 per hour.
