The Career Center is a bustling office full of opportunity for part-time student employees. Students work alongside nearly 30 full-time staff members and help to deliver career services and resources to thousands of AU students and alumni. Many student employees re-up with the Career Center year after year and eventually go on to land high quality internships, national scholarships, and great full-time jobs after graduation.

The Information Technology Assistant works under the direction of the AU Career Center's Systems Administrator to ensure the proper functioning of the hardware and software workstations in the Career Center and Office of Merit Awards.  The position also supports data reporting and inventory of Career Center equipment.  Additional responsibilities may include:
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining visitor-use workstations and other special-use PCs and equipment (e.g., interview rooms, kiosks, display systems, laptops, computer projectors).
  • Help install new software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat) and set up hardware (PC's, printers, webcams) while assisting with maintaining inventory of Career Center equipment.
  • As first-tier technical support, troubleshoot and resolve (or refer) hardware and software support requests from Career Center staff and student employees with a special focus on tech support for Career Center applications (e.g., Handshake, Big Interview etc).
  • Assist Systems Administrator with collecting and presenting data to management and to stake holders in meaningful reports (engagement reports, DEI reporting)  Must be able to use primary software tools, such as Qualtrics and Handshake, in conjunction with Excel.
  • Keep current with documentation on how to work from home and help keep tech documentation up to date including the Office Manual.
  • Provide technical support for additional Career Center software including kiosks, Google Analytics, and Teams/Sharepoint Sites.
  • Support Career Center staff connecting remotely during appointments, interviews, or other business related matters.
  • Help present updated workflows and tech guidance to CC staff.

Educational Requirements

  • Incoming or current AU student.

Minimum Requirements

  • Patient and clear communication.
  • Technology problem-solving.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel.
  • Software and hardware maintenance.
  • Experience with Windows and Mac operating systems.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with office 365 and SharePoint a plus. Experience assisting computer users would be a strong plus in this position.

Salary Range

  • $16.50/hour.

Hours Per Week

  • 9 hrs/week to start; must be able to work at least 2 days/week including some in person time. May be asked to adjust schedule to participate in occasional special events such the job fair.

Work Environment

  • Remote work may be possible for this position.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will gain large scale tech support experience. They will get to be part of adapting our workplace to hybrid modality and be able to contribute to problem solving around this topic. The student will also get the opportunity to make tech presentations and practice their coaching and communication skills.
