Ticket Office and Events Assistant

Ticket Office and Event Assistants will be present at the Katzen Arts Center during performance and weekly business hours to assist in providing a positive ticketing and front-of-house experience for patrons. Candidates will become well versed in the use of ticketing software, point of sale management, fire code, space use policies, and customer relations in a performing arts venue. 

This position requires strong customer service skills and a positive attitude. A successful candidate must be able to work with the public in a professional manner.  This position’s primary location is at the Katzen Art Center, though occasional additional hours may be available at the American University Greenberg Theatre.

Ticket Office and Events Assistants are at all times expected to act in a professional manner as a representative of the Katzen Arts Center. Appropriate attire is mandatory when working. The work schedule varies depending on performance schedule. Hours available may be weekdays, weekends, day or evening.

Essential Functions

  1. Process ticket orders both over the phone and in-person at the box office window (during performances as well as weekly box office hours).
  2. Develop an excellent working knowledge and familiarity with the online ticketing system,, in order to provide a quality ticket-buying experience and to occasionally compile daily and monthly sales reports.
  3. Provide thorough information about performances and events happening throughout the Katzen Art Center, Greenberg Theater and Katzen Museum to patrons.
  4. Provide Front-of-House services to patrons during events including: Will Call ticketing; program distribution; ticket tearing and stub collection; seating assistance; and assistance with general questions.
  5. Assist supervisory staff with enforcement of Katzen Arts Center policies and fire code during performances.
  6. Act as a liaison between the public and Katzen Arts Center supervisory staff, responding to voice messages and general inquiries from the public.
  7. Prepare the event venue for the public prior to performances, and restoring it to it's standard configuration following the performance.
  8. Certain general office tasks such as filing, maintaining office organization, and computer-related projects will be assigned as needed.

  • Attire is business casual, with occasionally more formal attire pending event needs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Weekly shifts in the Katzen Ticket Office are available during normal business hours (M-F, 11am-4pm), guaranteeing a consistent number of hours per week to interested candidates.
  • Event hours typically take place Thurs-Sun in the afternoon and evenings and can vary dramatically subject to the event scheduled and individual event requirements.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • An interest in the performing arts is desirable;
  • Previous experience in the performing arts or customer service a plus.
