Summary/Objective

The Ticket Office and Events Associate will work with events management staff to oversee front-of-house operations and Katzen facilities during events. Duties include basic facilities oversight to ensure satisfaction of patrons and performers. This position is responsible for oversight of facility users, as well as other events staff in order to maintain adherence to policies and fire code. Associates will be cross-trained in all areas of patron services, and may be responsible for ticket-taking, program distribution, closing the venue after performances, and reporting on facility use.
 
This position requires strong customer service skills and a positive attitude. A successful candidate must be able to work with the public and undergraduate staff in a professional manner.  This position’s primary location is at the Katzen Art Center, though occasional additional hours may be available at the American University Greenberg Theatre.
The Ticket Office and Events Associate is at all times expected to act in a professional manner as a representative of the Katzen Arts Center. Appropriate attire is mandatory. The work schedule varies depending on performance schedule. Hours available may be weekdays, weekends, day or evening.

Essential Functions

Facility Preparation and Oversight
  • Prepare performance venues (including support of stage set-up, when necessary) and lobby areas for shows and events.
  • Ensure that all performance venues and lobby areas are left in a tidy manner after all shows and events (i.e. picking up programs, trash, calling for cleaning services).
  • Coordinate VIP, media/press, reserved and handicapped seating.
  • Act as a liaison and maintain contact with events management staff and coordinators throughout performances and events (including tech, backstage, Ticket Office Supervisor, front of house, and all visiting event coordinators).
  • Act as the immediate contact person for undergraduate event employees.
  • Remain available and visible to patrons and undergraduate staff throughout performance to solve any problems that may arise;
  • Responsible for balance between comfort of patrons and adherence to theater policies.
  • Contact AU Department of Public Safety in case of emergency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Customer Service
  • Project a professional manner to events management staff and patrons.
  • Adhere to dress code and all event policies.
  • Create an environment where patrons feel valued and supported.

Work Environment

The Katzen Arts Center is a team-based workspace, focused on building a collaborative, professional working and learning environment. Attire is business casual, with occasionally more formal attire pending event needs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Weekly shifts in the Katzen Ticket Office are available during normal business hours (M-F, 11am-4pm), guaranteeing a consistent number of hours per week to interested candidates. Event hours typically take place Thurs-Sun in the afternoon and evenings and can vary dramatically subject to the event scheduled and individual event requirements.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • An interest in the performing arts is desirable.
  • Previous experience in the performing arts or customer service - particularly in a supervisory role - is a plus.
